This remodel project centered on expanding a charming 1940s bungalow for a local artist. The challenge was to add just over 1,000 square feet to the existing house—while preserving its original style. In addition to the main house expansion, we incorporated a new Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), built as a garage apartment to provide flexible space for rental income or visiting family. Leveraging the unique shape of the lot, we strategically sited the new structures to create a private courtyard between the main residence and the ADU, maximizing this outdoor living space. The end result is an elegant, improved home that is filled with natural light, providing the perfect inspiring environment for the artist homeowner while honoring the architectural heritage of the original 1940s structure.
With the right partner, the process can be clear, collaborative, and even enjoyable.
